MuleSoft for hospitality.

Guest data is scattered across reservation, property, dining and loyalty systems; MuleSoft connects them so every team sees the same guest and the same stay.

What MuleSoft does for hospitality & transportation

MuleSoft helps hotel groups, resorts, restaurant operators and venues connect the systems that run the guest experience. Reservations come from central reservation systems and booking engines, stays live in property management systems, spend flows through point-of-sale terminals, and points sit in loyalty platforms. MuleSoft builds reusable APIs over each, resolves which records belong to the same guest, and delivers a consistent profile to Salesforce for sales, service and marketing. Actions travel back as well: a service recovery credit approved in Service Cloud posts to the folio, and a group contract signed in Sales Cloud creates the room block.

Why it fits

Why hospitality & transportation is different.

Hospitality integration is harder than it looks because portfolios are rarely uniform. Owned, managed and franchised properties may run different property management and point-of-sale systems, often chosen locally, and brands add or drop properties regularly. Guest identity is also messy: bookings arrive through direct channels, travel agents and online intermediaries that mask contact details. MuleSoft handles that variety with system APIs per platform and a shared guest and stay model above them, so Salesforce receives the same structure from every property. Adding a hotel becomes a matter of connecting its systems to existing APIs. Where a property's system offers only limited interfaces, MuleSoft can still schedule file exchanges, though that data will be less timely.

Use cases

How hospitality & transportation teams use MuleSoft.

Arrival-ready guest profiles

Before check-in, front desk and concierge teams benefit from knowing preferences, past issues and loyalty status. MuleSoft combines upcoming reservations from the property system with service history and preferences from Salesforce, then returns an arrival list to each property. Staff greet repeat guests properly, and a complaint from a previous stay at a sister property is visible before it happens again.

Group and event contracting

Sales managers negotiate room blocks, meeting space and catering in Salesforce. When the contract is signed, MuleSoft creates the block in the property system and the event in sales and catering software, then reports pickup back to the opportunity. Sales managers see attrition risk early, and operations works from the same commitments the client signed rather than a copied spreadsheet.

Service recovery with folio posting

When a guest complains by chat or phone, the service agent reviews the stay in Service Cloud and approves a credit or amenity within policy. MuleSoft posts the adjustment to the folio or loyalty account and confirms it, so the guest sees the gesture at checkout and finance keeps a consistent record of every recovery cost by reason and property.

Loyalty and outlet spend capture

Dining, spa and retail spending often happens outside the room folio. MuleSoft collects transactions from point-of-sale systems, matches them to known guests where the guest has identified themselves, and passes eligible activity to the loyalty platform and Salesforce. Marketing then segments on actual on-property behavior rather than room bookings alone, and properties can see which outlets and services repeat guests favor.

Design

The data model decisions.

Three design choices shape hospitality integration. The first is guest identity: define matching rules across email, loyalty number, phone and name, and decide how to treat bookings from intermediaries that supply masked emails. The second is the stay as a first-class record, linking reservation, property, room type, rate plan, folio totals and service cases, so every team references the same visit. The third is property ownership: record whether each hotel is owned, managed or franchised, because that decides which data the brand may collect and what each property's staff may see about guests from elsewhere.

Property management system

Reservations, in-house guests, room status and folio totals flow to Salesforce, with approved credits and preference updates written back property by property.

Point of sale

Outlet transactions from restaurants, bars, spas and shops arrive in batches or as events and link to guest profiles whenever the guest is identified.

Central reservation and booking engine

Direct and channel bookings, rate plans and cancellations arrive before a stay, giving sales and marketing teams an early view of future arrivals.

Plan for it

What to get right first.

01

Keep card data out

Point-of-sale and property systems handle payment cards under PCI DSS. Design APIs so card numbers never pass through MuleSoft or Salesforce, rely on tokens instead, and review each interface with your payments team to keep integrations outside the cardholder data environment wherever possible.

02

Check franchise data rights

Franchised properties may own their guest data under their agreements, and privacy laws limit reuse across brands. Confirm contractual rights and consent before combining franchise guest records into brand-wide profiles, and build property-level filters into the APIs rather than relying on reports to hide records.

03

Plan for uneven property systems

Not every property system exposes modern interfaces. Inventory versions and interface options early, budget for file-based integrations at some locations, and set expectations with operations about which properties get near-real-time data and which receive updates on a schedule, and why that difference exists.

FAQ

MuleSoft for hospitality & transportation: questions.

Is a packaged property system connector enough?

Perhaps not for a single property on a single system. The case for MuleSoft grows with the number of properties, platforms and consuming channels. Groups running several property management and point-of-sale systems benefit from one set of APIs instead of separate connectors, each with its own mapping, monitoring and upgrade schedule. We assess this during discovery.

How does MuleSoft relate to Data Cloud for guest profiles?

They play different roles. MuleSoft moves and transforms data between operational systems and handles actions such as posting a folio credit. Data Cloud, which Salesforce now also calls Data 360, unifies profiles and builds segments for marketing and personalization. Many hotel groups use MuleSoft to feed reliable stay and spend data into Data Cloud, then activate those profiles across Salesforce.

Can restaurant groups use the same approach?

Yes, with a different center of gravity. Restaurant groups integrate point of sale, online ordering, reservations and loyalty rather than property management. MuleSoft brings those into a common guest and visit model, which supports catering sales, private dining inquiries and service follow-up in Salesforce. The main hurdle is guest identification, since many diners never provide contact details at all.

Can an AI agent change a reservation?

It can if the reservation system exposes a safe API and the rules are clear. An Agentforce agent might look up booking details, add a special request or check late checkout availability, grounded in the guest's own records. Rate changes, cancellations with penalties and refund disputes should transfer to staff, and the Einstein Trust Layer governs how guest data is handled in prompts.
