What is Agentforce Coworker? A guide for admins and business leaders

What Agentforce Coworker does, what data it can see, how automatic enablement and opting out work, what it costs, and what admins should check before users start asking it questions.

Agentforce Coworker is an AI assistant built into the Salesforce search bar. Users ask questions in plain language, and Coworker answers from the CRM records they already have access to, optionally adding Slack and other connected sources. When a request needs action, it can hand the work to other Agentforce agents, run flows or call actions in the same conversation. Salesforce began switching it on automatically for eligible orgs on August 10, 2026, so the first job for most admins is checking what users can see before users start asking.

What does Agentforce Coworker do?

Salesforce describes three jobs: find, catch up, and plan and act. Find means answering questions from business data, such as which top accounts have had no outreach in 30 days. Catch up means surfacing what changed, for example a summary of an account's last five cases. Plan and act means turning the answer into work, such as drafting re-engagement emails or escalating priority cases.

For the action step, Coworker orchestrates. It can bring in specialized agents, including existing Agentforce agents and ones you configure, and run CRM actions, flows and external API calls without the user switching apps. Salesforce announced Coworker as generally available in August 2026, and at Dreamforce in September 2026 positioned it as part of a broader AIforce lineup that also covers Claude and Slack.

What data can Coworker see?

Out of the box it searches Salesforce CRM records such as accounts, contacts, opportunities and cases. Slack is an optional source. Through Data 360 connectors, Salesforce says Coworker can reach more than 270 external sources, with permission-aware connectors for Google Drive shared drives and SharePoint listed as a closed pilot when we reviewed the documentation. Files over 75 MB are not indexed.

Coworker respects each user's existing access. It inherits the permissions, sharing rules and security controls already in your org, so it shows a user only what that user could find in Salesforce today.

How does automatic enablement work, and can you opt out?

Salesforce started enabling Coworker on a rolling basis from August 10, 2026 for customers with unmetered, user-based AI seats, with an email notice before activation. According to Salesforce's FAQ, these orgs are excluded from automatic enablement:

  • Orgs without generative AI turned on
  • Orgs with multiple data spaces
  • HIPAA, health and life sciences, and government orgs
  • Orgs on usage-based Flex Foundation seats

To decline, use the opt-out link in the notification email or go to Setup, Agentforce Coworker, and turn on Opt Out of Auto Activation. You can also change settings after enablement. Orgs outside the automatic program can turn Coworker on in Setup; the documentation lists Data 360 with a dedicated data space and specific permission sets as prerequisites.

What does it cost?

For automatically enabled orgs, Salesforce says searching CRM data, plus Slack if connected, does not consume Flex Credits. Other routes are usage-based, metered through Flex Credits or Data Services Credits depending on your contract. Salesforce's new Core, Advanced and Max editions include Coworker, and the Max editions list it as unmetered.

Two limits are worth knowing. Salesforce caps usage at 30 large language model calls per minute per user, and one question can trigger several calls behind the scenes. And actions that Coworker hands to other agents may be billed under those agents' own pricing, so confirm how your contract meters orchestrated work before you encourage heavy use.

What should admins do before users rely on it?

  • Audit access for your largest user groups. Look for profiles or permission sets with View All, Modify All or broad sharing rules that nobody would defend if they saw the results in a chat answer.
  • Clean the fields people will ask about. Coworker answers from your data, so stale opportunity stages, blank next steps and duplicate accounts turn into confident wrong answers.
  • Decide on Slack. Connecting Slack adds conversation context but also brings channel content into answers; agree on which workspaces and channels belong.
  • List the agents and actions Coworker may call, and test those hand-offs the way you would test any automation.
  • Write a one-page usage note: what to ask, what not to rely on yet, and how to report a bad answer.
  • Watch adoption and answer quality for the first month, then expand connected sources deliberately.

Most of this is ordinary Salesforce hygiene that an AI search layer makes urgent. We run this kind of access and data review as part of Agentforce readiness work, and the same checklist applies whether Coworker arrived automatically or you turn it on yourself.

Is Coworker the same as Agentforce?

It is part of Agentforce. Agentforce is the platform for building and running AI agents in Salesforce; Coworker is the employee-facing assistant that sits in the search bar and calls on those agents. Customer-facing service agents, sales development agents and custom agents are separate configurations that Coworker can orchestrate but does not replace.
