Claude, powered by Anthropic

ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude consulting

Move teams from ChatGPT or Microsoft 365 Copilot to Claude, or run both side by side, without losing the work people built. We plan and run the move from ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Business or Microsoft 365 Copilot to Claude, powered by Anthropic, for the whole company or only the teams that need it. The work covers an inventory of what people built, a mapping to Claude Projects, Skills and connectors, an identity cutover, a parallel run and a clean license exit.

You are not really moving chats. You are moving the instructions, files and habits behind them.

Old conversations are rarely worth carrying over. The assets that matter are the reusable ones: custom GPTs with their instructions, knowledge files and actions; Copilot Studio and Agent Builder agents; prompt libraries kept in a shared document; and the connections to SharePoint, Google Drive or a CRM that make answers specific to your company. Claude has a direct home for each. A Project holds standing instructions and uploaded knowledge and can be shared with view or edit rights. A Skill packages a repeatable procedure that owners can provision to the whole organization. A connector gives Claude governed access to a system. A good migration rebuilds the few dozen assets people use every week and retires the rest on purpose.

  1. 01

What you can export from ChatGPT and Copilot

Export options differ by product, so check them before announcing dates. OpenAI's help center (checked October 26, 2026) says ChatGPT Business members cannot export their own workspace data; a workspace owner can export a member's data from the Members page when the option is available. ChatGPT Enterprise owners have the Compliance API, which OpenAI moved into its Compliance Logs Platform in December 2025, covering conversations, uploaded files, workspace GPT configuration, memories and users. On the Microsoft side, the Copilot Studio agent inventory (a preview feature per Microsoft Learn) lists draft and published agents with creator, channels, authentication and connectors. Microsoft stores Copilot prompts and responses for retention in a hidden folder of each user's Exchange mailbox, governed by Purview policies.

  2. 02

When running both is the better answer

A full switch is not always right. Microsoft Learn (updated October 2026) says Anthropic is a Microsoft subprocessor and Anthropic models are on by default for most commercial tenants outside the EU, EFTA and UK, available in Microsoft Copilot, Researcher, Copilot Studio and Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps. A company that keeps Microsoft 365 Copilot for mail and meetings may already have Claude models there. Others keep ChatGPT for one department with deep GPT investment and move everyone else. We size each option by job, not brand: which teams need Claude Code, long-document work or Claude connectors, and which are well served where they are. Paying for two assistants is fine when each has a defined job and an owner.

    Why Abstrakt Solutions

Platform migration is familiar work for us. As a Salesforce partner since 2017, we move companies off HubSpot, Dynamics and spreadsheets with the same sequence this needs: inventory, field mapping, cutover rehearsal, parallel run and decommission. We also build on Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI models for clients, so we have no reason to tear out a tool that works, and we will say so when coexistence is cheaper. Our team holds 12 Claude certifications, and Abstrakt Solutions is a Certified Services Partner in the Claude Partner Network. When the assets being moved touch Salesforce, we rebuild them on Claudeforce or a Salesforce MCP server with the same permission model your CRM already enforces.

How we help with ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude (5)

The engagements we run most often on ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude, from first implementation through optimization.

AI asset inventory

We catalog GPTs, Copilot agents, prompt libraries and connectors with their owners, users, data sources and write actions. Each asset gets a disposition: rebuild, merge, keep in the current tool or retire.

Mapping and rebuild in Claude

We rebuild the high-use assets as Claude Projects, organization Skills or connector-backed workflows, and test each against saved examples from the old tool. Owners sign off on output quality before users are moved.

Identity and tenant cutover

We verify domains, set up SSO and provisioning, build custom roles from your IdP groups and fold stray personal Claude accounts into the company organization. The cutover is rehearsed with a pilot group first.

Parallel run and user communication

We run both tools for a set window with a comparison log, manager briefings, short task-based training and office hours. Users get a dated plan that says what changes for them and where their old work went.

License exit and data disposition

We time seat reductions to billing cycles, export what legal wants kept, confirm retention in the old tool and decommission connectors and service accounts. Nothing is switched off until the records owner signs.

What ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude actually includes (6)

Projects as the home for GPTs and agents

A Claude Project combines custom instructions with a knowledge base of uploaded documents, code or text, and its chats draw on both. On paid plans, Claude switches to retrieval mode when project knowledge nears context limits, which Anthropic says can expand capacity up to 10x. On Team and Enterprise, projects can be shared with named people, email lists or the whole organization, at Can view or Can edit, and owners can turn off organization-wide sharing.

Organization Skills and plugins

Owners on Team and Enterprise provision Skills under Organization settings > Plugins & skills by uploading a .zip with a SKILL.md file; the skill reaches all users at once. Skills need cloud code execution and the Skills policy turned on. Enterprise can bundle skills into a plugin and assign it to one group, block user-created skills, and scan third-party skills and plugins for malicious content. Users can turn individual provisioned skills off.

Connectors, including Microsoft 365

The Microsoft 365 connector searches SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams, is read-only by default, and needs one-time consent from a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator. Write tools such as sending email are optional and need Entra approval. Custom connectors point at remote MCP servers; on Team and Enterprise only owners add them, and each member then connects with their own credentials, so Claude reaches only what that person can.

SSO, domain verification and provisioning

SSO runs through WorkOS on Team and Enterprise. You verify each domain with a DNS TXT record starting anthropic-domain-verification-, saved before leaving the setup screen, and DNS can take 24 to 48 hours. A restrict-organization-creation toggle stops new organizations, including personal ones, on verified domains. Enterprise adds SCIM, custom roles and domain capture; claude.com/pricing also lists migrating accounts by domain as an Enterprise feature.

Organization export and memory import

Team and Enterprise Primary Owners can export conversation and user data from Organization settings > Data and privacy, delivered as an emailed link that expires in 24 hours; files Claude created in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF are not included. For individuals, claude.com/import-memory generates a prompt to run in another assistant, then the output is added to Claude memory settings. It moves summarized preferences, not transcripts.

Claude models inside Microsoft 365 Copilot

For side-by-side setups, Microsoft lets admins control Anthropic models in the Microsoft 365 admin center under Copilot > Settings > View all > AI providers operating as Microsoft subprocessors, by user or security group. AI Administrator or Global Administrator rights are required. Microsoft notes these models are excluded from the EU Data Boundary, are off by default in the EU, EFTA and UK, and are not available in GCC High or DoD.

Is ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude the right call?

Good fit

  • Leadership has chosen Claude as the main assistant and you have ChatGPT Enterprise or Business seats with shared GPTs people depend on.
  • Engineering wants Claude Code, but the rest of the company runs on Microsoft 365 Copilot, and you need a clear rule for who uses what.
  • Several departments built Copilot Studio agents or GPTs without central records, and you need an inventory before any change.
  • Staff already pay for personal Claude accounts on company email, and you want them inside one governed Enterprise organization.
  • A renewal date for ChatGPT or Microsoft 365 Copilot is coming and finance wants a dated plan for seat reductions.

Think twice

  • Your Copilot use is mostly mail and meeting summaries inside Outlook and Teams; turning on Anthropic models in Microsoft 365 Copilot may cover the need without a new tool.
  • You want to move fewer than ten individual users with no shared assets; Anthropic's memory import and a short onboarding session are enough.
  • Your AI agents run inside Salesforce and serve customers; an Agentforce review on our Agentforce page is the better starting point.
  • You have no executive decision on the target assistant yet; start with our Claude AI readiness assessment rather than a migration plan.

How a ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude rollout comes together (5)

  1. 01

    Inventory assets and usage

We pull GPT lists and configurations from ChatGPT Enterprise admin tools or the Compliance API, Copilot Studio agents from the Power Platform inventory, and shared agents from the Microsoft 365 admin center Agent Registry. We add prompt libraries and connectors people name in short interviews. Each asset gets an owner, a usage estimate, its data sources and any write actions. Owners: IT, the AI lead and one power user per department. Owners mark stale assets for retirement before any rebuild starts.

  2. 02

    Map and rebuild priority assets

Each kept asset is mapped to a Claude Project, an organization Skill, a connector-backed workflow or a custom agent. GPT actions and Copilot Studio connectors become MCP connectors with scoped credentials, never a shared admin key. We save five to ten real inputs from the old tool for each asset and compare outputs side by side. The asset owner approves the rebuild in writing, which gives users a reason to trust it on day one.

  3. 03

    Cut over identity and access

We verify domains, connect SSO, choose JIT or SCIM and build custom roles from IdP groups, including which teams get Claude Code and which connectors each role may use. Before saving provisioning, we confirm every intended user is assigned to the Anthropic app in the IdP, since unassigned users are removed on save. Microsoft Entra pushes SCIM changes about every 40 minutes, so we schedule the cutover with that delay in mind.

  4. 04

    Run both tools in parallel

A pilot group moves first, then departments in waves. During the parallel window both tools stay live, users log tasks where Claude fell short, and we fix the asset or the training each week. Managers get a one-page brief: what is moving, where old work lives, who to ask. We hold office hours and keep a short FAQ current. The window ends on a date set at the start, not when complaints stop.

  5. 05

Exit licenses and dispose of data

We export what your records owner wants kept: ChatGPT Business member exports by owners, Enterprise data through the Compliance API, and confirmation of Purview retention for Copilot interactions. We remove connectors, service accounts and OAuth grants tied to the old tool. Seat reductions are timed to billing; OpenAI says ChatGPT Business seat reductions take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Then the decommission checklist is signed and filed.

Before you buy licenses. On claude.com/pricing as of October 26, 2026, Team covers 2 to 150 people with Standard seats at $20 per month billed annually ($25 monthly) and Premium seats at $100 ($125 monthly). Enterprise lists $20 per seat per month billed annually, a 20-seat minimum and usage at API rates. Plan for overlap: during the parallel run you pay for both tools. Check the notice period and seat terms in your OpenAI or Microsoft agreement before setting dates. We sell services, not licenses; migration work is quoted as a fixed fee after inventory, at rates of $180 to $225 per hour.

Common ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude mistakes (4)

  1. 01

    Bulk-copying every GPT and agent

Most inventories are full of drafts and one-off experiments. Rebuild what people use weekly and retire the rest on a published list.

  2. 02

    Cancelling seats before exporting records

ChatGPT Business members cannot export their own workspace data, so owners must export before access ends. Legal should approve what is kept and where.

  3. 03

Recreating GPT actions with a shared admin key

A connector built on one broad credential gives every Claude user that credential's reach. Use per-user authentication or a narrowly scoped service account.

  4. 04

Ending the parallel run without a date

Open-ended overlap doubles license cost and splits support. Set the end date and the success checks up front.

Guides on ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude (15)

ChatGPT or Copilot to Claude questions (6)

Can we import our ChatGPT chat history into Claude?

Not as a company-wide transfer that we could verify. Individuals can use Anthropic's memory import at claude.com/import-memory, which moves summarized preferences rather than transcripts. Export old conversations for your records instead, and put documents that still matter into the relevant Claude Project.

Will our custom GPTs work in Claude?

Not directly; they are rebuilt. A GPT's instructions and knowledge files map well to a Claude Project, a repeatable procedure maps to a Skill, and GPT actions become connectors to remote MCP servers. Test each rebuild against real examples from the old GPT before users switch.

Should we keep Microsoft 365 Copilot if we adopt Claude?

Often yes, for some users. Microsoft makes Anthropic models available inside Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio for most commercial tenants, and Claude has its own Microsoft 365 connector. Decide by job: who lives in Outlook and Teams, and who needs Claude Code, long documents or Claude connectors.

How does Claude pricing compare with ChatGPT Business?

List prices are close. As of October 26, 2026, Claude Team Standard seats are $20 per month billed annually or $25 monthly, per claude.com/pricing, and OpenAI's help center lists ChatGPT Business Standard seats at the same $20 and $25. Premium tiers on both list $100 annually and $125 monthly. Usage limits differ, so compare against your workloads.

What happens to data in the old tool after we cancel?

That depends on the vendor's terms and your settings, so confirm it in writing. For Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft documents that interactions retained by Purview policy stay in the user's mailbox, and move to an inactive mailbox if the account is deleted. Export what legal needs before access ends.

How much effort does a migration take?

It tracks the number of assets worth rebuilding, not head count. A company with a few shared GPTs and one connector is a short project; dozens of Copilot Studio agents calling Power Platform connectors call for phases. We quote a fixed fee once the inventory is done.
