Abstrakt Solutions is a Salesforce Consulting Partner that serves companies across Hampton Roads remotely and travels on site for workshops, go-lives and training. Virginia Beach is one of our focus markets.
Virginia Beach and the rest of Hampton Roads are a short flight from St. Louis, so on-site workshops and go-live visits are straightforward to plan.
Figures cover the Virginia Beach-Chesapeake-Norfolk, VA-NC Metro Area (VA–NC).
Manufacturing is the largest private sector in the Virginia Beach metro by output, with health care second. The Hampton Roads Alliance describes a shipbuilder headquartered in Newport News as the largest shipbuilding company in the U.S., and calls the region's main naval station the world's largest naval base. A discount variety retailer is headquartered in Chesapeake, and the Alliance points to a bank founded in Hampton Roads in 1999 and a food company it describes as the world's largest pork processor as other regional names.
The Alliance's target sectors include defense, energy (including offshore wind), logistics, advanced manufacturing, business and shared services, and information technology. It lists several national defense primes and government IT services contractors among companies with regional operations, along with the Department of Energy's Jefferson Lab. Old Dominion University offers degrees in cybersecurity, computer science, business analytics and modeling and simulation engineering, and its VMASC center works on simulation, data analytics and cybersecurity. A maritime AI defense firm opened its first U.S. office at the Virginia Beach International Incubator.
Largest private sectors, 2024 GDP share.
Shipbuilding suppliers, food processors and advanced manufacturers in Hampton Roads juggle long production cycles, defense customers and commercial accounts. Salesforce connected to ERP gives sales and service one view of orders and installed equipment.
Health care is the metro's second-largest private sector. Providers and health organizations here need patient engagement, referral tracking and service processes built around privacy rules.
The defense and IT contractors with operations in Hampton Roads run long pursuits, teaming arrangements and program-level relationships that are hard to manage in spreadsheets.
With a national store chain headquartered in Chesapeake, retailers and consumer brands in the region need customer service, marketing and store-level data working together.
Regional target sectors: Defense (incl. Defense & Maritime), Energy (incl. Clean Energy / offshore wind), Logistics / Distribution & Logistics, Advanced Manufacturing, Business & Shared Services, Information Technology (Hampton Roads Alliance)
Defense and IT contractors often track capture work, teaming partners and contract vehicles outside their CRM. Salesforce helps when the pipeline reflects how government work is actually won.
Manufacturers serving defense and commercial customers commonly keep orders, quotes and service history in separate systems, so integration with ERP is usually the first priority.
Organizations near defense work tend to review permissions and integrations closely, which makes a health check a sensible step before adding clouds or AI.

A practical framework for assessing whether your revenue operations are stage 1 reactive or stage 4 predictive, and what to do next.
Read the full post →Ship repair revenue follows maintenance availabilities and prime contractor solicitations, so opportunities should link to the vessel, the availability window and the prime or agency issuing the work. A custom availability object lets estimators see what is coming months ahead and plan crews accordingly. Track subcontract modifications and growth work as related records so margin reporting stays accurate. Keep controlled technical data in approved systems and reference it by number only, and limit visibility by program so cleared staff and commercial staff stay appropriately separated.
Offshore wind work involves developers, tier-one contractors, port authorities and workforce partners, often before any purchase order exists. Start with Sales Cloud tuned for long qualification cycles: capture prequalification status, certifications and the specific project each opportunity supports. A relationship map across developers and their contractors helps you see who actually buys. As contracts arrive, add CPQ for fabrication or logistics quotes. We usually keep the first phase simple, then extend into project delivery tracking once work is under way.
It fits well. Shared services teams handle high volumes of requests from internal business units or outside clients, and Service Cloud gives them omnichannel routing, entitlements tied to service levels, and knowledge articles that cut handling time. Set up queues by skill and client, then report on backlog and first-contact resolution by team. Agentforce can take routine requests once your knowledge base is reliable. Abstrakt typically starts with a process inventory, because consolidating duplicate intake channels is often the quickest improvement.
