Salesforce is buying Braze: what it means for Marketing Cloud customers

The short version

  • On October 20, 2026, Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Braze, the customer engagement platform, for about $5.66 billion in enterprise value, or $47.50 per Braze share in cash.
  • The deal is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal year 2028 and still needs approval from Braze shareholders and regulators. Until then the two companies run separately.
  • Salesforce says Braze will strengthen Marketing Cloud's real-time, cross-channel personalization, especially in mobile apps and in-app messaging.

What Salesforce announced

Braze is a cloud platform that marketers use to send personalized messages across mobile apps, websites, email, SMS and WhatsApp as customers act, rather than on a fixed campaign calendar. Its BrazeAI features choose content, offers, channels and timing automatically. Braze is headquartered in New York and serves about 2,770 customers, including Canva, Instacart, Urban Outfitters and Venmo.

In its announcement, Salesforce said Braze's real-time engagement will complement Marketing Cloud, Data 360 and Agentforce, and that Braze co-founders Bill Magnuson and Jon Hyman will lead Braze's expertise in mobile, data engineering and customer engagement within Marketing Cloud. Salesforce did not announce product names, pricing or a combined roadmap.

If you run Marketing Cloud today

Nothing changes in your contract, your org or your support today. The deal has not closed, and Salesforce has not said how Braze and Marketing Cloud will fit together after it does.

What the announcement does tell you is direction: Salesforce is investing in high-volume, real-time, mobile-first engagement. If those are gaps for you today, they are likely to get attention. If your marketing runs mostly on email journeys and CRM data, the near-term impact is small.

If you run Braze today

Braze remains an independent public company until closing, and your contract stays with Braze. Many Braze customers already use Salesforce for sales or service; Salesforce says the combination will connect marketing with commerce, sales and service, so expect integration with Salesforce data to be a focus after closing. Salesforce and Braze both describe the approach as open and composable, but neither has published post-close product or pricing commitments.

Who this affects

  • Companies on Marketing Cloud planning renewals or expansions in the next 12 months
  • Braze customers, especially those that also run Sales Cloud or Service Cloud
  • Consumer brands choosing a mobile or in-app engagement platform this year
  • Marketing operations teams that own the data feeding campaigns

What to do now

  1. Do not make a platform decision on the deal alone. Closing is expected in Salesforce's next fiscal year, and no combined roadmap exists yet. Choose based on what you need in the next 18 months.
  2. Renewing Marketing Cloud soon? Ask about roadmap and flexibility. Ask your Salesforce account team what the Braze plan means for your products and whether your terms leave room to adjust once the roadmap is public.
  3. Write down your mobile and real-time needs. List the in-app, push and event-triggered messages you send or want to send. That list tells you whether Braze capabilities matter to you at all.
  4. Clean up the customer data that feeds marketing. Whatever happens to the products, campaigns run on identity, consent and event data. Unified profiles in Data 360 or clean CRM data pay off on either platform.

Our take

This is a big signal about where Salesforce wants marketing to go: real-time, mobile and AI-driven, on top of unified customer data. For most of our clients the right move this quarter is the unglamorous one: get consent, identity and event data in order, and keep campaign plans on the products you have. We will update this post when Salesforce shares how Braze and Marketing Cloud will fit together.

Questions people are asking

When will Salesforce's acquisition of Braze close?

Salesforce expects the deal to close in its fiscal year 2028, which begins in February 2027. It still needs approval from Braze shareholders and regulators.

Will Braze replace Marketing Cloud?

Salesforce has not said so. Its announcement describes Braze as strengthening Marketing Cloud's cross-channel personalization, with Braze's founders leading that expertise within Marketing Cloud.

Does the Braze deal change Marketing Cloud pricing?

No pricing changes were announced. Treat any quote you receive before closing as unaffected by the deal, and ask your account team directly if you are negotiating a renewal.

Should I wait to pick a marketing platform until the deal closes?

Usually not. Closing is months away and integration takes longer. Pick the platform that fits your next 18 months, and keep your customer data portable.
