Figures cover the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA-NJ Metro Area (PA–NJ).

The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, whose figures cover Lehigh and Northampton counties, ranks two competing hospital networks as the region’s largest private-sector employers. Manufacturers make up much of the rest of its list, including a heavy-truck builder, an industrial gases supplier, a medical-device maker, a lighting-controls manufacturer and a crayon and art-supplies brand, along with the electric utility. LVEDC reported in 2018 that the industrial gases supplier was building a new global headquarters in Upper Macungie Township, and wrote in 2026 that the art-supplies brand is now headquartered in Easton. By output, manufacturing is the metro’s largest private sector and health care is second.

LVEDC’s target sectors are life sciences, advanced manufacturing, professional and creative services, and food and beverage manufacturing. It also lists an acoustic-guitar maker, an optics and imaging company’s U.S. arm and a candy maker among the global brands at home in the Lehigh Valley, and it describes a drugmaker’s choice of the region for a new manufacturing facility as a “Historic $3.5B Deal.” For talent, LVEDC counts 11 colleges and universities, among them Lehigh University, Lafayette College and Muhlenberg College, awarding more than 10,000 degrees a year. It also convened a regional technology consortium, with Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania among its partners, to support a CHIPS Act Tech Hub application.

Industries

Where Salesforce fits in Allentown’s economy.

Largest private sectors, 2024 GDP share.

Manufacturing

14.4% of metro GDP

Truck, industrial gas, electrical-product and consumer-goods makers here sell through dealers, distributors and retailers, so quoting, account planning and service history need to connect to ERP and production data.

Health care and social assistance

12.9% of metro GDP

With two large hospital networks at the top of the employer list and medical-device and pharmaceutical manufacturing nearby, Salesforce work often centers on referrals, patient and provider outreach, and service designed around privacy rules.

Transportation and warehousing

5.5% of metro GDP

Carriers, warehouses and third-party logistics providers need shipper accounts, quotes and service cases in one place, tied to the transportation and warehouse systems that run operations.

Professional, scientific, and technical services

at least 4.4% of metro GDP

LVEDC targets professional and creative services, and engineering, consulting and agency firms that serve the Valley’s manufacturers need pursuit pipelines, project handoffs and client reporting connected.

Regional target sectors: Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Professional/Creative Services, Food and Beverage Manufacturing (Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC))

Common Challenges

Common Salesforce challenges in these industries.

Dealer and distributor visibility

Equipment and consumer-goods makers that sell through partners often lack a clear view of what their channel is doing. Partner portals and shared pipeline data are a common first fix.

Regulated product service

Medical-device and life sciences manufacturers need complaint, service and field records that stay traceable, which shapes how Service Cloud is configured from day one.

Health-system outreach

Hospital networks competing for the same patients and physicians need referral and outreach tracking that respects consent and privacy requirements.

FAQ

Salesforce consulting in Allentown: questions.

How should a Lehigh Valley food and beverage manufacturer manage retailer and distributor accounts in Salesforce?

Consumer Goods Cloud suits teams that visit stores and audit shelves, while Manufacturing Cloud fits brands that forecast volume against distributor agreements, and many producers need pieces of both. Model the distributor, the retail banner and each store as separate accounts, then track promotions and trade spend against them. Loading shipment or depletion data from your ERP lets forecasts rest on actual sell-through rather than rep estimates.

Our Lehigh Valley company also serves customers in Warren County, New Jersey. Does crossing the state line change our Salesforce setup?

It can. Capture state on every account and contact from standardized addresses, because licensing, tax handling and privacy obligations may differ between Pennsylvania and New Jersey. That field can then drive territory assignment, email consent rules in Marketing Cloud Account Engagement and any state-specific terms on quotes. Reports split by state also show whether the New Jersey side of the metro is getting the attention your sales plan assumes.

We sell medical devices to health networks in the Allentown and Bethlehem area. How should Salesforce model hospital buying?

Hospital systems buy through committees, so map the buying roles on each opportunity: clinical champion, value analysis, supply chain and finance. Account hierarchies separate the parent network from individual hospitals and clinics, and evaluations and in-service training can be logged as activities. If your quality team needs traceable complaint records, connect intake to Service Cloud. Keep patient information out of the CRM unless a defined process and agreement cover it.
